Fading Away

porcelain
Installation approx 150 x 100 x 5, 20 cm, 2019

Fading Away is an installation of porcelain monarch butterfly wings displayed to mimic the monarch butterfly’s unique annual migration pattern from Canada to Mexico. The porcelain wings embody a skeletal appearance and hang from the wall with nails to represent their innocent and sacrificial death caused by changes in their environment. The orange light shone over the wings cast a shadow of black and orange monarch silhouettes on the wall representing what once was. I attempt to show their beauty in abundance and bring awareness to their decline.
